More than three-quarters of B2C E-Commerce sales in Asia-Pacific projected to be on Mobile in 2018

Asia-Pacific is the world’s leader in mobile shopping.

Asia-Pacific had the largest share of online transactions conducted via mobile devices among all global regions in 2018. The yStats.com report underlines that M-Commerce in Asia-Pacific is forecasted to maintain double-digit annual growth between 2018 and 2021. The major drivers of M-Commerce in the region are the world’s highest mobile and Internet user penetration, and as a result, an increasing number of mobile shoppers. To meet this growing demand, retailers are investing in the development of mobile shopping applications and mobile friendly websites. Already in 2017, more than one-third of E-Commerce sales volume in Asia-Pacific was generated via mobile apps.

China is a global M-Commerce giant.

According to a forecast cited in this report by yStats.com, China is the leading country in M-Commerce worldwide and is projected to account for about three-quarters of global M-Commerce sales by 2021. Other countries of the region also demonstrate a strong interest in mobile shopping with mobile devices becoming the main means of connecting to the Internet. M-Commerce is the dominant trend in South Korea, where over half of online shoppers used a mobile device to make purchases in 2017. In Japan, mobile purchases are expected to be one of the major contributors to continuing B2C E-Commerce growth. In 2017, M-Commerce in the country accounted for more than a third and is forecasted to reach almost a half of online retail sales by 2021.
