Europe: the rise of alternative delivery preferences

Home delivery is still by far the most important delivery/collection option for online shoppers across Europe, according to the Europe B2C E-Commerce Delivery 2015 report published by yStats.com. Despite this, alternatives are becoming increasingly sought after, the report’s authors found.
The report analysed the ecommerce and delivery sectors in: Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, and Ukraine.
The key areas it examined include:
Attitudes toward paying for delivery differ across Europe, with the majority of online shoppers in the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany indicating that free shipping is one of the most important factors in their purchase decision. In Eastern Europe there is a growing willingness to pay extra for faster delivery; in Russia, for example, this share amounted to close to half of online shoppers last year.
The growth of collection can be seen across Europe too, according to yStats. In the UK, over two thirds of online shoppers already use click-and-collect services, and in France the most popular alternative to home delivery is collection from a local shop. Germany continues to lead the way in the use of parcel lockers.
Also in Germany, same-day delivery services have been launched by retailers such as Zalando, Media Markt and Saturn.
The report also highlights growing cooperation between e-tailers and non-traditional collection outlets. For example, in Turkey, online merchant Morhipo has started to offer click-and-collect in cooperation with retail stores.
